Grimbergen Blond 7°-1/3L

Grimbergen Blond 7°-1/3L
Ref: BB20583

Brewed under licence by Alken-Maes for the Grimbergen abbey. This is a strong blond beer, with a yeasty softness to the palate reminiscent of trappist beers and a tenacious, frothy head. It has a slightly hoppy aroma, which is less pronounced in the taste.
Glowing golden dark yellow with a small film of white lacing floating on the top. Sweet lemon wheat nose with some fuesal corn notes hidden behind an oversweet nutty banana aroma. The feel on the mouth is a semi-thick rush of tingling yeast, bananas and bread crust, and a sweet lemon, banana and vanilla yogurt flavor. Finish is spicy and sticky.

Grimbergen bruin 6.5°-1/3L

Grimbergen bruin 6.5°-1/3L
Ref: BB20582

Brewed by Alken-Maes for the Grimbergen abbey, this is a double dark beer, whose appearance and taste are a close approximation of an English brown ale. Rich ruby-brown colour, with an aroma comprising equal proportions of hops and something like fermenting marrow. It is sweet, lively on the tongue and easier to drink than its strength would suggest (which is considerably in excess of your average brown ale). The aftertaste is a lingering, mild malty flavour.
Clear dark ruby, almost a burgundy appearance, with a large-bubbled sandy head which subsides into a frothy layer with a few bubbles peaking through. Nose has some gingerbread spiced cherries, nice roasted strawberries and cherries in the flavor as well, with a big emphasis on apple cider. Peppy finish, finishes like apple juice.

Grimbergen Optimo 10°-1/3L

Grimbergen Optimo 10°-1/3L
Ref: BB20606

This is a strong abbey-style beer from the Grimbergen monastery, brewed as an Easter ale but available all year. It has a rich, heavy, complex nose with malt, black treacle, petroleum, and possibly pepper. Flavour is quite sweet, chewy, cloying and puddingy, but the sweetness is counteracted by a malty, treacley bitterness. There is a fruity, port-like quality to the palate too, along with a cheesiness towards the finish, all of which suggests that this would make a good after-dinner beer.
Deep amber/chestnut colour, head that forms with much noise and effort but evaporates almost instantly. Moderate condition. Caramel, toffee, licorice and burnt brown sugar in the nose, with a suggestion of raspberry as it warms (Like a Liefmans Frambozen). Quite thin in the mouth, you seem to drink it by osmosis rather than swallowing. Hints of malt whisky, raisins and caramel but all quite delicate and flleeting. More whisky malt in the finish with alcohol coming to the fore and a hint of bitterness towards the end.

Abbey beer. This beer undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle and is made from malt, hops, white candy sugar and water

A smooth balanced triple that went excellently with heavy stew. Not strongly yeasty, it was not too hoppy, nor too spicey, which was appreciated by the tongue. Warming and clean finish.

Grimbergen Goud-Dorée 8° - 1/3L
Ref: BB30057

This is a strong blonde beer, full of character with tertiary fermentation in the bottle yet still very accessible. Taste: The traditional Grimbergen recipe is enriched here trough the use of aromatic hops, which gives the beer its refined bitterness and hoppy character. The result is a refreshingly strong blonde beer.

Leffe blond 6.5°-1/3L

Leffe blond 6.5°-1/3L
Ref: BB20054

Leffe Blond has a balanced, gently aromatic flavour. The sweetness is full bodied yet delicate. The palate has restrained fruity hints and a nutty creamy texture. The aftertaste is pleasantly dry. It should always be served in its stylish Leffe chalice-type glass.
Leffe Blond is a pale abbey beer, with a full, sunny, golden colour. It has a smooth and full bodied taste and a rich creamy head. Like all the Leffe beers, it is a "connoisseur" beer that is easy to drink.
Had this one from tap. Light citrus and malts aroma. Golden colour with large bubbles. Vanilla and summer fruits aroma. Bit sweet, bit spicy. Nice bitterness in the finish

Leffe Brown is a full-bodied and rather fruity abbey beer. The flavour goes from a fruity sweetness to toffee or caramel with some roasted coffee notes, finishing with an oaky dryness. It should always be served in its stylish Leffe chalice-type glass.
A traditional Belgian abbey beer with a deep brown colour and a full, sweet and fruity aroma.
An all-around great beer. Pours a dark, thick brown with a sizable tannish head. A malty aroma is balanced with a nice blend of spice (my comrade and I couldn’t single out any specific kind), both of which are prevalent in the flavor, along with maple, tannin, and berry fruit. Thick-bodied, ideally for the colder months, but, as we found, it can also be enjoyed during the summer. Good stuff.

Leffe Radieuse is the mysterious beer in the Leffe Range. It has a distinctive strong fruity bouquet with a spicy-coriander touch and a gleam of flowers. This goes together with well balanced caramel and roasted flavours. It has a distinctive strong taste, a good balanced bitterness with sweet hints and a full body. It is a beer that caresses all your senses over and over again. Leffe Radieuse should always be served in its stylish Leffe Chalice-type glass.
It's strong, it's fruity, it's heavy, oh it's another Leffe. An excellent strong Ale with a not-too-sweet fruity palate combined with some bitterness. A nice dark amber body with a smooth head. Be sure to get it in one of those one liter steins. Thumbs up!

Leffe Vieille Cuvée 8.2° - 1/3L

Leffe Vieille Cuvée 8.2° - 1/3L
Ref: BB40277Z

Pours a clear, dark chestnut, with floating yeast and a huge pillowy white head. This lasts well, and leaves behind ample lace. The aroma is a bit muted, but there are some sweet nutty notes, a hint of buttered toast and a yeasty dough note in there. It starts off much more hoppy than most Belgian beers, with a bitter herbal and citrus taste. This melds seamlessly with some espresso malt coming in towards the middle and a complex finish, which blends smoother malt notes with pine hops. Quite different to many others of the style, and a nice ale indeed.

Leffe Xmas 6,6° - 1/3L  New

Leffe Xmas 6,6° - 1/3L
Ref: BB30094

It pours a dark plumb-red with a diminishing head. Though the basic taste is all malts, the generic sweetness of your everyday Leffe is elevated to greater heights with the addition of spices and Christmas cheer. There are, of course, no hops, but the plumb darkness is a fruity supplement, and the alcohol adds a bit of a bitter edge.

Maredsous Brown 8°-1/3L

Amber brown with small light beige fish flake yeast, huge creamy tan head (as good as the 10), great lace as well. Aroma is a light, even delicate floral nectar, green sour grapes, hops, warming to cane sugar syrup and vegemite yeast. The vegemite also dominates the flavour on the first mouthful but the lighter hops and caramel kick in. The overall palate is quite light, more bitter, less sweet and some sour at the start. Somewhat like the 10, a soft almost bland dry finish takes points away from what is a very good beer.
